District Councillor Update

Tuesday, 16 June 2015

It seems a long time ago now that Debby Hallett and I were elected to the Vale of White Horse District Council to represent the new ward of Botley and Sunningwell, and Debby became Leader of the (Liberal Democrat) Opposition at the Vale.
Since the election we have been busy dealing with queries from residents about planning applications and waste collections, attending Parish Meetings and meetings about the redevelopment of central Botley. Over the next few months the Vale’s Local Plan 2031 Part 1 goes before the Planning inspectorate and we will be making the case against ad hoc development of the Oxford green belt. We are working with communities to explore Neighbourhood Planning and hope to meet more of you at the festivals and community events happening over the summer.

A few bits of information I have come across recently that you might not already know about:
Planning Enforcement. For a long time, Vale has had no mechanism in place to proactively follow planning applications where permission was granted but with conditions, to ensure the conditions are met. The Planning Enforcement team relies on the public for this. Planning applications and are all published on the Vale website (and on Debby’s Blog http://www.cllrdebbyhallett.com/planning-applications).
If you, or someone you know, have difficulties putting out your rubbish and recycling collection due to a disability, illness or infirmity, and there is no one else to put it out, the vale offer an Assisted Collection Service. Contact details to register for the service are available at http://www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk (and put ‘assisted collections’ into the search box).

Debby and I both publish more information online:

Twitter: twitter.com/DebbyHallett_LD and twitter.com/emilysmithLD
Various news items and opinions on Debby’s blog: CllrDebbyHallett.com
Please do get in touch if there is anything you think we might be able to help with or if there are local issues or activities you would like to tell us about. I look forward to meeting more of you in the in coming weeks…and years.
Best wishes, Cllr Emily Smith
